AMOJ Successes

  • With the help of The Children's Rights Council ,   The American Coalition For Fathers and Children and Family Resolution Council, AMOJ obtained the electronic database for the Circuit Court of Charles County, Md. AMOJ is developing software to analyze the data. It is expected that the results will indicate extensive improprieties at the courthouse, including "judge shopping" by some of the local attorneys.

  •
  • In June of 2000 A Matter Of Justice ran three ads on cable television in Alexandria, Prince George's and Charles Counties outside of Washington DC. Calling for legal reform, the ads resulted in an increase of AMOJ membership and bank of horror stories.

  •
  • AMOJ is taking a leading role in uniting the Legal Reform Movement in America. Over a dozen organizations throughout the country joined AMOJ in a request to meet with the Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader to discuss collaboration in bringing about sweeping legal reform.

One of the planned items for the meeting is the promotion of Judicial Accountability Initiative Law (JAIL) prepared by Rev. Ronald Branson of J.A.I.L . The thrust of JAIL is to eliminate judicial immunity for malicious, corrupt and lawless judges and make them civilly and criminally liable for judicial misconduct. Given the existence of federal and state statutes prohibiting violation of citizens' constitutional rights, if the proposed legislation is passed, judges who have acted to the contrary will be retroactively liable for their misdeeds. A truly democratic development in the initiative is the provision for the creation of citizens’ grand juries to investigating judicial wrongdoing. J.A.I.L. hopes to put the proposed legislation on the ballot in California in the near future and throughout the United States thereafter.
